Yesterday I picked some green clover from the base of a tree in front of my apartment — in honor of St Pats, it seemed appropriate to put it in a miniature beer mug jar. I was going to cut it, but decided to keep the roots and see how long it lasts.

Then this morning, I noticed it had bloomed, one cute little purple flower.

This is what $5 worth of calendulas at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market will get you. Five filled vases (plus a bud vase that I forgot to take a picture of). I really need to stop by there more often – I’m sure these will last longer than the ones I usually pick up at Trader Joe’s or Safeway.
